MAHL SELECTED TO LEAD BOYS VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM
WEBSTER GROVES, MO, October 2, 2019: Webster Groves High School is pleased to announce that Ryan Mahl has been selected to be the next head coach of their boys volleyball program. Mahl is a 2012 graduate of WGHS and has been an assistant coach for the Statesmen for the past two years.
The process of finding the next head coach began when Helen Buckley announced her retirement last spring. Coach Buckley had been the WGHS head coach for the last 17 years posting a career record of 269-222-11 and led the Statesmen to seven appearances in the state final four.
After graduating from WGHS where he was a two-time all-metro player in 2011 and 2012, Mahl went on to play collegiately at St. Ambrose University where he was a three-time all-conference player and in 2016 was their conference’s player of the year and an NAIA All-American. WGHS Athletic Director Jerry Collins said, “We are very excited to have Coach Mahl take over our boys volleyball team. His playing experience and knowledge of the game have allowed him to become an effective coach in a short amount of time. He has been very involved in our team’s back-to-back state final four appearances over the last two years and he already has a great rapport with the returning players and their parents in the program.”
