WEBSTER GROVES NAMES NEW HEAD FOOTBALL COACH
WEBSTER GROVES, MO, February 11, 2020: Webster Groves High School is pleased to announce that Matt Buha has been selected to be the next head coach of their football program. He will be only the eighth head coach in the history of Statesmen football dating back to 1907.
Coach Buha has been the head coach at MICDS for the past five seasons where his teams compiled a record of 43-18, along with an appearance in the 2018 state championship game. He has a total of 14 years experience coaching varsity football and teaching at the middle and high school levels. Buha is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
"It is an honor to have been chosen to lead one of the most storied football programs in the state of Missouri,” Buha said. “I am excited to begin meeting with our current and future student-athletes, and to begin immersing myself in the Webster Groves community. I look forward to closely partnering with the teachers in our building, the parents on our roster, and the members of our community as we all work together to positively impact the lives of every young man in our program."
WGHS Athletic Director Jerry Collins said, “We are excited to have Coach Buha join our coaching staff to lead our football program. During the search process we were impressed by his passion for working with students and his demonstrated success leading a high school football program. His ability to work as a certified strength coach will also benefit many of our athletic programs and student-athletes.”
Coach Buha will be replacing Cliff Ice as the head coach of the Statesmen. Ice is retiring after having been the head coach for the last 21 years posting a career record of 151-82 and winning two state championships.
