ICE TO RETIRE FROM WEBSTER GROVES HIGH SCHOOL
WEBSTER GROVES, MO, December 6, 2019: Cliff Ice has informed the administration of Webster Groves High School of his plans to retire at the end of this school year. Ice has served as head football coach and assistant activities director at WGHS since 1999.
In his 21 years as Webster’s head football coach, Ice compiled a career record of 151-82. Along the way, he led the Statesmen to two Class 5 state championships in 2002 and 2009; his teams also placed second in Class 5 state tournament in 2003 and 2010 and advanced to the state semifinals in 2005 and 2013.
WGHS Athletic Director Jerry Collins said, “We are very proud of Coach Ice and the way he has led our football program. As only the 8th head coach in over 100 years of football at WGHS, Coach Ice has established a legacy of success that will not be forgotten. We wish Coach Ice the very best in his future plans and know that he will always be a Statesman!”
WGHS Principal Matt Irvin said, “Coach Ice has been a successful head football coach in the St. Louis region for over two decades. His longevity and success on the field have had a great impact on our students and our school community. As a one-time coaching adversary, I can attest that his competitive excellence was always balanced with his thoughtful, fair-minded disposition. We are grateful for his service to the tradition of Webster Groves football.”
